Yolanda E. Figueroa focuses her practice on insurance coverage litigation. She reviews claims and arbitration demands, confers with underwriters regarding any claims issues, and works with underwriters and brokers towards resolution of these issues. Ms. Figueroa brings over 15 years of legal experience, including corporate, insurance defense, and insurance coverage litigation experience, as well as four years as a claims analyst at a national insurance underwriter.
Ms. Figueroa also has extensive school law experience. She worked in the NYC Department of Education, Office of General Counsel, Special Education Unit, where she analyzed impartial hearing decisions to evaluate whether parents were prevailing party under the IDEA to determine attorney’s fees claims under the IDEA’s fee shifting provision, researching state and federal case law, drafting memoranda of law for NYC’s Comptroller seeking authorization for settlement of attorneys’ fees claims. She also acted as a liaison with the NYC Office of Corporation Counsel on federal actions brought regarding attorneys’ fees claims. Periodically, Ms. Figueroa worked on Free Appropriate Public Education cases to mitigate the overload in that area.
She is fluent in both written and spoken Spanish.
