Joey Badua focuses his practice in labor and employment, and real estate law. Mr. Badua evaluates and litigates employment claims in courts and agencies on issues such as employee discipline, discharge and discrimination. In addition, Mr. Badua handles claims of wage and hour compliance, retaliation and union grievances.

Just prior to joining KDV,  Mr. Badua was a senior staff attorney with Bay Area Legal Aid in Richmond, CA, and a staff attorney at the Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, in San Francisco, CA.  He defended clients by preparing for jury trials and negotiated terms of settlement in cases of unlawful detainer. He evaluated claims by small businesses and low-income clients in the areas of commercial leases, employment, immigration, protective orders, health access, housing and foreclosure. Mr. Badua’s  previous law practice was in trial and appellate matters for both the Hawaii and  San Francisco Public Defender’s Offices, where he managed matters of due process, legal error, adverse credibility determinations, and pre-trial hearings. Additionally, he handled trial work in district and family circuit courts on behalf of clients facing criminal, felon, misdemeanor charges, and sentencing.

During law school Mr. Badua was the recipient of the Allan Brotsky Public Interest Pro Bono Award and the Filipino American Bar Association of Northern California Ocampo Scholarship. He was a writer and associate editor for the Golden Gate University Law Review, and a board member of the National Asian Pacific American Law Student Association and the Bay Area Asian Pacific American Law Student Association.

He is fluent in Ilocano and Tagalog. Mr. Badua is transmasculine and uses he/him pronouns, and accepts they/them.
