Jeff Matty’s practice is focused on complex coverage matters for domestic and international insurers. He provides counsel and representation on behalf of insurers related to errors and omissions (E&O), directors and officers (D&O) and specialty line policies, as well as breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and bad faith. Mr. Matty also represents insureds in professional liability claims involving directors and officers, lawyers, and accountants, and defends architects and engineers in construction defect claims arising out of structural failures, including collapses of buildings and cranes. In addition, his practice includes defending manufacturers and distributors of chemical and mechanical products against design defect and inadequate warning product liability claims, as well as general contractors, project managers, property owners and developers against Labor Law 200, 240(1) and 241(6) suits.
He advises insurers and private clients on emerging issues involving data breaches, cyber-attacks, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) violations and electronic fraud, and represents insurers in coverage disputes involving tech/media insurance policies including reality television and documentary filming, and video game data breaches.
In addition to his coverage practice, Mr. Matty has experience prosecuting recovery actions on behalf of insurers in the United States and London, including Lloyd’s syndicates, in matters involving commercial and residential property loss and business interruption claims. His prior experience also includes the defense of medical and legal malpractice suits, as well as catastrophic and complex personal injury claims.
