It’s still too early to speculate on the cause of the tragic Champlain Towers South building collapse in Surfside, Florida.
We should not jump to blame the condominium association without more evidence. We need to remember the board members who manage the association are typically owner-occupants themselves, such as is the case in the Surfside association.
These board members are presumably just as interested in maintaining the safety and security of the building where they all live. But what is certain right now is that the Surfside homeowners’ class action is calling more attention to homeowners’ associations, or HOAs, across the country and how they are managed.
