National Bar Association Mid-Year Conference

The National Bar Association (NBA) is hosting its Annual Mid-Year Conference and Gertrude E. Rush Award Dinner on April 5-6, 2013 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort and Spa (1 Monarch Beach Resort N, Dana Point, CA 92629).

The NBA will honor the Gertrude E. Rush Award Recipients: Karol Corbin Walker, Shareholder, LeClairRyan; Michael A. Lawson, Retired Partner, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, LLP; Hon. Allen J. Webster, Jr., Superior Court Judge, State of California, County of Los Angeles; Thomas J. Sabatino, Jr., Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Walgreens Co.; Kim K.W. Rucker, Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal Affairs, Kraft Foods North America; and Brad Smith, General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Legal and Corporate Affairs, Microsoft Corporation.

The NBA will present Academy Award nominee and star of the upcoming movie release “Olympus Has Fallen”, Angela Bassett and two-time Tony Award Nominee Courtney B. Vance with the Heman Sweatt and Humanitarian Awards during the Awards Dinner. The Awards Dinner will also feature remarks by United States Attorney for the Central District of California, Andre Birotte, and Grammy Nominated Shanice Wilson will be performing.

The Labor & Employment Law Section is hosting a day long Continuing Legal Education Seminar on April 5, 2013. The CLE has five (5) offerings: (1) “A Rose by Any Other Name…: Post-Dukes, is Multi-Plaintiff Litigation the New Class Action?” (2) “The Challenges and Pitfalls of Social Media eDiscovery in Labor and Employment Disputes” (3) “Partnering with Human Resources to Control Risk” (for attorneys and HR professionals) (4) Analysis and discussion of California Supreme Court, Harris vs. Santa Monica. The Mid-Year Conference/Seminar will include a breakfast and luncheon.
