Posted Sep 18, 2019

(September 18, 2019, Hackensack, NJ) — Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck LLP (KD), a leading national law firm, today announced that Karol Corbin Walker has joined the firm as a business, commercial and employment litigation partner in its Hackensack, NJ office. Walker, who has 30 years of experience, was the first African American president of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) and the first African American woman to attain partner status at a major New Jersey law firm.

Prior to joining KD, Walker was a shareholder at LeClairRyan in Newark. Also joining KD from LeClair Ryan in Newark is Danita Minnigan Cooper, a labor and employment law associate.

Walker is a litigator with trial experience in the state and federal courts. She has argued numerous cases before the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey, the New Jersey Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Her practice focuses on business, commercial and employment litigation. In the labor and employment sector, her matters have included the defense of employment discrimination, sexual harassment and retaliation matters.

“Karol is known statewide in New Jersey as an outstanding litigator and trial attorney,” said Christopher Nucifora, co-managing partner of the KD New Jersey office. “She is a problem solver and will play a pivotal, leading role as we continue to grow our litigation footprint in the state and nationally.”

Walker became the first African American president of the NJSBA in 2003. In 2012, she was the first African American female president of the National Conference of Bar Presidents and in 2015 she became the first African American president of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey.

“I have known a number of the KD attorneys in New Jersey for more than a decade,” said Walker. “The firm’s vision for growth in New Jersey and nationally resonated with me. KD has a platform that best suits the needs of my practice and clients and I look forward to being part of the growth trajectory.”

Walker earned her B.A. with honors from New Jersey City University and her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law.

Cooper defends employers against claims of discrimination, unlawful harassment, retaliation, hostile work environment and whistleblower claims in state and federal courts. She earned her B.A. from Seton Hall University and her J.D. from Rutgers Law School.

“Karol is a talented litigator who possesses exceptional business acumen and inter-personal skills. She is well-respected not only by the business community and her peers, but by the judiciary as well.  KD is excited about the addition of Karol and Danita, and looks forward to providing them with a platform to flourish and enhance the firm’s practice, culture, and personalized client service,” said Gino A. Zonghetti, co-managing partner of the KD New Jersey office.
