Small companies could still potentially face losses if they violate New York City’s coming paid-sick-leave mandate starting April 1, even though business advocates won a delay in certain fines.
The law, which is expected to pass full Council easily this afternoon, was amended last week to include a so-called “cure period” from April to Sept. 30, during which businesses with between five and 19 workers would not face civil fines. GoBizNYC said then in a statement that those companies would “not be penalized for unintentionally violating the new law.”
