Brings Three Decades of Professional Liability Defense Capability

(July 28, 2014, San Francisco, CA) — Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck LLP (KD), a leading national law firm, today announced that Louis (Louie) H. Castoria has joined the firm as a partner in its San Francisco office and Director, West Coast Professional Liability Practice Group. Castoria has more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of professional liability defense.

Castoria’s practice will focus on professional liability defense in the financial services sector representing securities brokers, lawyers, insurance agents and brokers, accountants, and financial planners; insurance coverage litigation; commercial litigation; insurance regulation; and reinsurance arbitration.

Castoria comes to Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck from the San Francisco office of Wilson Elser where he was Chair of the Specialty Professional Risks Practice Group, Co-Chair of the Securities Industry Practice Group and founding member of the Accountants, Insurance/Reinsurance and Commercial Services Practice Groups.

“My business philosophy has always been to make a positive difference for my clients and at my firm,” said Mr. Castoria. “KD has an inclusive approach to the practice of law; attorneys share information across the firm’s national platform to provide the highest quality service possible to clients. I plan to contribute to the firm’s expansion in California as well as enhance our capabilities in securities and agent-broker defense. Given my years of experience, I also hope to be a mentor and trusted advisor for KD attorneys.”

“Louie’s talents in the field of professional liability, whether it is defending securities broker-dealers in FINRA arbitrations and in court, defending investment advisors, lawyers, accountants and others in professional liability matters, handling D&O liability litigation or bad faith claims, will all greatly enhance KD’s service to our client base,” said Ivan J. Dolowich, co-managing partner of KD. “Louie is renowned for his problem-solving skills and we look forward to his advice and counsel across the board.”

Castoria earned his B.A. from the University of San Francisco and his J.D. from the University of California at Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law. He is admitted to practice in California. He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Educational Association and a member of the American Bar Association and Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), where he has twice chaired the D&O West Symposium and served on the International Conference Committee. Castoria writes about professional liability claims prevention in insurance trade media and is also a humor columnist for the Half Moon Bay Review (San Mateo County, CA) where he writes a weekly column.

“I have had the pleasure of working with Louie over the years, as have other KD attorneys, and am thrilled that we will now be working side by side,” said Katherine S. Catlos, managing partner of the KD San Francisco office. “Louie will be a tremendous asset to both our clients and our lawyers.”
