KD Attorney Avery Dial Appointed to Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research Board of Directors

Posted Mar 10, 2022

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – Avery Dial, a partner and co-deputy-chair of Kaufman Dolowich & Voluck’s Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice Group was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research (FSCDR). The foundation is committed to supporting innovative research in sickle cell disease to help maximize quality of life and improve survival for the generations of people affected with this disease.

“It’s an honor to join the board of an organization that is committed to advocacy and research for a disease that is misunderstood by many in the medical community and by the public,” said Dial. “I’ve learned an incredible amount about the disease in the years I’ve been involved with FSCDR, and am looking forward to continuing our work to expand our reach and impact.”

Dial has been with the organization since 2016, when he was first retained to advise on a commercial matter. In the years since, he’s stayed in close contact with the organization and has advised on a number of additional matters on a pro bono basis. Now as a board member, Dial will contribute to reducing the seven-fold increase in mortality for adolescents and adults with sickle cell disease.

FSCDR Board Chair, Tom Moran, stated “In 2016 I recall FSCDR being brought into a legal matter.  I contacted two very reputable law firms in the DC/Baltimore area where I live and conduct business.  These firms provided referrals to Fort Lauderdale reputable firms which led to identifying Avery Dial as a trusted resource.  He has more than lived up to serving FSCDR with competence and commitment.”

In the coming years FSCDR plans to expand its offering by expanding the medical facility in Fort Lauderdale in addition to its clinical facility in Hollywood, Florida. The facility will focus on conducting research and providing care to sickle cell patients.

“As we pursue our goal of building an enduring organization, I couldn’t be more excited to have Avery join our superlative board of directors,” says Dr. Lanetta Bronté-Hall, The Foundation for Sickle Cell Disease Research President and Chief Executive Officer. “Mr. Dial’s expertise across cybersecurity accelerates our insight on the latest security and intelligence threats.”
