Ivan J. Dolowich is a nationally recognized attorney in the practice areas of Directors and Officers (D&O) Liability, Financial Professional Liability Insurance, various Errors and Omissions (E&O) matters and Cyber Liability.
Prior to joining KDVG, Mr. Dolowich served as Vice President, Claim Services at St. Paul Travelers where he managed the legacy Gulf Insurance business with a team of over 150 attorneys, claim examiners and claim operations personnel. Previously, he held similar senior positions in D&O and Financial-related Lines Claims with Kemper and CNA.
Mr. Dolowich has a record of accomplishment managing litigation and claims in all aspects of Property and Casualty Insurance with a focus on D&O Liability, Financial Institutions/Fidelity, Employment Practices Liability, Professional Liability and Miscellaneous E&O matters. He applies his depth of Professional Liability experience to matters involving insurance agents and brokers, investment advisors, attorneys, accountants, architects and engineers.
His Commercial Litigation experience includes successful prosecution and defense of securities and consumer class actions as well as representing leading insurance companies, financial institutions, public companies, directors and officers, not-for-profit organizations and their boards. He has served as an expert in D&O disputes among insurers and as a mediator in class action litigation fee disputes.
Mr. Dolowich is a published author; for instance, he co-authored an article with Daniel H. Brody, Esq. entitled, "Policyholder Financial Impairments Raise Director & Officer Coverage Questions," for the November 3, 2008 issue of National Underwriter. The authors discuss the potential effects of the subprime mortgage crisis on D&O policies. In addition, writers often cite him in their articles. Susanne Sclafane, managing editor of Property & Casualty National Underwriter cited him in her March 1, 2010 article, “Plaintiffs Choosy About Derivative Suit Filings, Lawyer Tells D&O Underwriters.”
He frequently gives presentations and moderates panels at leading industry associations and symposia. From 2004 to 2008, he served as a Co-Chair of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society's (PLUS) Annual Directors and Officers Liability Symposium.
Mr. Dolowich earned his Juris Doctor from St. John's University School of Law cum laude and served as a member of the Law Review. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the John M. Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis.
Mr. Dolowich is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey and before the United States District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. His memberships include the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and its Insurance Committee.
